Car Engine Troubleshooting Tips
Car engine failures are one of the biggest headaches of all and there are many reasons why that problem occurs. An auto technician can troubleshoot a car start problem in a matter of minutes, but for those who don’t have the technical know-how, it can take forever. Here are some troubleshooting tips and suggestions where to start checking when your engine doesn’t start:
1. Check for loose battery terminals. Turn on your car again and pay attention to the noise the engine creates. There should be some noise when you start the ignition. If you don’t hear anything, chances are the terminals leading to the battery is loose. So what to do now? The next step is tighten them. Remember, don’t just unplug the wires for there is a positive and negative terminal there. If tightening seems futile, carefully clean the terminals and battery poles.
2. Your battery could be dead, that is, if you hear some clicking sounds as you turn on the ignition. Clicking sounds can also be a result of a loose connection. To know the status of your battery, check the wiring to the starter. If it’s good, you might need to recharge the battery.
3. If your engine doesn’t start, the choke might be causing it. To test it, start the engine and step on the accelerator. Let the auto rev up to heat it up a little. It should work fine after a few minutes.
4. Inspect the fuel pump. Your car might have a fuel pump problem that why it doesn’t start properly. Try to jumpstart your car. If the issues were just a disfunctional battery, this should fix it. However, if the fuel pump is not working properly, it requires that you seek the help of a mechanic to repair it.
